About Mrs. D. Richardson
With a career derived from the trenches of the educational system, Denovilee brings a breadth of knowledge and experience to the Intentional Learning Academy. Children have always been at the forfront of her life, starting as a preschool teacher right after high school. Later, she begin working with children 11-17 years of age who had been court odered to live in a residential drug treatment facilty. This was where she begin to see the need for passionate teachers who were not willing to give up on children "when they were in their worst state." It was during this time, she decided to go back to school. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in ESE (K-12), Reading, and ESOL, a Masters of Arts degree in Adult Education, and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership (K-12). She leads this organization from both a practical and pedagogical stance. Mrs. Richardson has taught at both the elementary, middle and high school levels, including elementary (1st grade) middle school reading and math (6-8 grade), and high school English (9-12), Reading (9-12) and Algebra. But her prowess isn't limited to just the classroom. Mrs. Richardson has also served as a literacy coach, Dean of Students, Dean of Academics, Assistant Principal, and Principal.
Her passion begin as a child growing up in church. She says being a pastor's kid (PK) was not always easy because it put the demand of learning to work with people from all walks of life and needing help in various areas of their life. This was displayed from going to the prison ministry in the Dade County Jail, feeding the homeles on the streets of Miami, or singing and ministering to people at weddings and funerals. She believes this taught her to have compassion and patience for those who may seemed forgotten, overlooked, or ignored.
She is the proud wife of John Rchardson, the mother of 3 wonderful children, and 8 grandchildren.
As the head of the Intentional Learning Academy, Mrs. Richardson created this organization out of a need to restore faith in "educators" that teach our children, even if it takes doing it one family at a time. The world is ever changing but her love for students' academic success is undying. She believes that educators create and cultivate a culture of learning, which creates mindsets, and in turn impacts a child's behaviors. This is not only achieved through academics, but also by building rapport and relationships with children that make them feel loved, understood, and heard. When this is exhibited, children strive to achieve greater success.
